Significant northeast storms in association with higher than normal tidal surge, have contributed to severe coastal erosion. Dewey Beach will hopefully experience growth with normal spring sand transport inward. The lack of hindrances, such as jetties and groins, provide for great swimming and recreation experiences along the 1.1. mile of Dewey Beach coastline. However, those visiting our coastline should be aware of newly exposed coastal hazards such as rocks and cobble in the surf zone, wave energy impact in the surf zone, and exposed wood, debris, and wrackline deposits. We also recommend checking in with a lifeguard and inquire about the conditions of the day before entering the ocean.
